Root Assassin Shovel

Root Assassin Shovel

Reviewed by: Wayne Schaefer

January 23, 2015
The Root Assassin Shovel lived up to its name in a trial in my vegetable garden. Preparing my raised beds for spring planting was easily accomplished as the Root Assassin cut through roots left by last year's crop, cover crops and invading tree roots. Roots up to 1 inch or more were so easily cut I barely noticed they were there.

Natural First Aid Kit

Bee Stings or Insect Bites:

Carefully scrape the stinger out with your fingernail or a credit card. Pulling on the stinger will only inject more venom. The number one gardeners friend for insect bites is pure Neem oil! Just rub a small amount of Neem on the area as often as needed: it draws out the venom, pain and swelling. Some of us react very badly to wasp and bee bites with extreme swelling and pain that lasts for days. Neem has been a miracle for us. After applying it all symptoms are usually gone within hours!

Seed Starting

Planting Tiny Seeds: For those micro seeds, like parsley, begonias, carrots, mix the seeds with a little sand and sow them in your flat or in the garden by sprinkling the seed and sand mixture with a tablespoon. Be sure to firm the soil when you are done as these tiny seeds don't really need to be buried but good contact with the soil is essential.

Compost

Compost" is derived from the word, "Decompose". When plants decompose, they are transformed to a nutrient-rich, soil-like composition which is unsurpassed for growing most plants. The pH of Compost is usually very near neutral (neither "sweet" nor "sour"), which is an added benefit. This is the process which takes place in nature to replentish the soil's nutrients.

Compost sifted through the sides of a wastepaper can.
