Skyrocket Juniper

Skyrocket Juniper

Skyrocket Juniper
Juniperus virginiana 'Skyrocket' is a plant that sounds dramatic, and that is rather fitting as it certainly is! Tall and slender, this is an extremely eye catching tree that can either fill the gaps between other tall screening trees, be planted in numbers so as to create their own screen, or used as individual specimen trees to add drama and structure to your garden. They are truly unusual trees with a highly architectural growing habit that creates a slender needle of blue green foliage, the branches appearing to have been swept upwards as though carefully coiffed by the most talented of hair stylists before being lightly sprayed with an icy blue finish. Reaching heights of around 15 feet Ð sometimes more Ð and a width at the bottom of around two feet, it is easy to see how very distinctive these trees are.

Betty Hybrid Magnolia

Betty Hybrid Magnolia

Betty Hybrid Magnolia

Flowering trees are always an attractive feature of a well-planned garden. Chosen carefully, any tree will enhance an area, but by opting for one that erupts into a display of blossoms every spring you can double that effect easily. ThereÕs a huge range of flowering trees to choose from but one of the most popular is the magnolia. The familiar grandiflora species of this beautiful tree contributes the official flower of two US states, but other species can be found around the world. China is home to Magnolia liliiflora, for example, and that compact but alluring species is the basis of the gorgeous hybrid known as Betty. If youÕre looking for a spectacular and easy to grow tree, but your garden is too small for the towering Southern Magnolia, this could be exactly what youÕre looking for. A manageable size but every bit as vibrant as its full-sized cousins, a Betty magnolia will brighten the space around your home for decades to come.

Nothing livens up a garden quite like a few flowering shrubs. Fitting perfectly between bed plants and trees, they let you increase variety and create a shape and texture that guides attention to where you want it. Whether youÕre creating a cosy space around your patio or highlighting the stature of your favorite tree, shrubs give you a simple and attractive way to do it. Unfortunately many of the most popular ones are vulnerable to cold winters, so if you live further north your choice is restricted, but if you opt for the dogwood that wonÕt be a problem. As hardy as it is beautiful, this plant will brighten late spring and early summer with a host of attractive white flower clusters then attract birds with its copious berries in fall. ItÕs a great way to bring life and color to your garden.

Emerald Green Thuja Arborvitae

One of the best privacy trees. Thuja Emerald Green is an upright evergreen of exceptional quality with a moderate growth rate, reaching 12 feet in just a few years. It makes a tall, narrow column of green just three feet across and is ideal for smaller gardens where other evergreens are just too large. Because it grows into a narrow cone it can be used to make a screen that will need little or no clipping. However with clipping it will be neater and can even be maintained as a very low hedge. It is an ideal plant for a screen or wind-break and it is pest and disease free. It will thrive in almost any soil under all kinds of conditions.
