Cusickii Camassia

Cusickii Camassia - 5 bulbsCusickii Camassia - 5 bulbs: "Botanical Name: Camassia cusickii Description: Also known as wild hyacinth, this heirloom variety of  Camassia is a garden favorite for its spikes of baby blue flowers that grace the early summer garden and provide a dazzling display. Vigorous and hardy, it's a Northwest native that thrives in places where other bulbs can't, particularly in heavy clay soils and near streams and ponds, where they naturalize easily. Sturdy flower spikes grow 24-28inch high, each with a multitude of star-shaped, ice-blue blossoms. With almost no attention, the bountiful blooms appear reliably year after year, showcased by long, slender leaves. Our premium bulbs arrive for fall planting with blooms the following season."

Purple Smoke Tree

Purple Smoke Tree Grace Purple Smoke Tree: There are two kinds of plant commonly known as smoketrees but, among gardeners, the name’s usually applied to two species in the genus Cotinus. Found throughout the warmer parts of the northern hemisphere, including across the southeastern United States, the American and Eurasian smoketrees are both so popular that there are now dozens of cultivated varieties to choose from. Most of them are shrubs or small trees, usually up to about fifteen feet high – although some can reach up to 30 feet – and they’re best known for the delicate flowers that between June and September make them look as if they’re shrouded in pinkish smoke. This effect, combined with their attractive foliage and spectacular fall colors, have made them a firm favorite especially for naturalized gardens."

2017 Garden Journal

I officially started my 2017 gardening
Today I prepared several sections of the garden for the early plantings. Turned 1 shovel depth of soil and added finished compost to the spinach plot.
Turned the soil and added coarse compost and finished compost for the peas, potatoes, onions, lettuce, cabbage and red cabbage.
Took apart last years drip system and salvaged the pieces I can reuse. I'll be going with micro sprinklers instead of the spaced drip line.
Later in the week I'll be setting up some trellises.
